Bambinos Kebabs

Hello Fellow Nom Seekers!

There is a time and place for everything.  And I am thinking the time and place to eat a kebab from Bambinos is not when one is cold stone sober. 

I love the look of the whole set up.  Bear in mind, the Bambinos caravan is set up in the middle of suburbia and in the absence of any hipster food trucks, this place is considered so cool, it's hot. 

And I so wanted to like the food but unfortunately I don't.  I ordered a lamb kebab with garlic sauce and 'the lot' of salad.  Bubbachuck had the chicken kebab with tomato sauce and 'the lot' of salad.  Originally we ordered tabouleh instead of the 'the lot' but the lady said they don't actually have tabouleh even though it is on the menu.  You place your order by ticking the boxes on the actual bag the kebab comes in.  Clever.  I am suspecting this system was set up to minimise drunken slurring at the people manning the joint. 

I did not like my lamb one iota.  Firstly I doubt it was actual lamb as on inspection it had no meat fibres.  It's like the difference between ham off the bone and manufactured ham.  This is manufactured lamb.  Sure it had a lamby taste and I am sure it was originally some part of a sheep, but it was mashed up and reconstituted into a thin sheet of meat.  Bubbachuck's chicken was horrendous and I tried divert her attention away from the yucky bits as I flicked these aside.  There was a large chunk of chicken meat with a thick cap of fat with quills still in the skin.  Quills!  Feathers!  Ugh!   Appearance of the meat aside, it was not tasty.  It lacked the burnished herbiness one associates with spit roast meat.  It tasted like it was cooked in a microwave.

What else?  Well the garlic sauce had no garlic flavour to it.  But that in itself is a minor thing.  I am still getting over the meat.  I had a strange aftertaste in my mouth the whole evening and ended up taking a shot of apple cider vinegar to get rid of it.
