Mauritian Food

Greetings Fellow Nom Seekers!

After my Afghani food experience, my love affair with food in Dandenong continues. This time I was invited to sample the Mauritian cuisine at "Mauritian Food", a small take away shop that also caters for parties.

We arrived for a late take away lunch at 1:30 and unfortunately the choices were limited. Some of the food (like Bryani) were not available (mental note, go earlier more variety). As part of my selection, I settled for fried rice, veggie pickles (achard), tomato chutney, curry chicken and for dessert a mauritian cake call "napolitaine".

Napolitaine - shortbread sandwiched with jam and iced

All the food I sampled were good and the serves were bigger than it looked in the take away container. The highlight for me was a soft drink call Orangina, my favourite drink and not readily available in Melbourne. Unfortunately I was too busy drinking it and forgot to take a photo.

Overall this is a place that would allow food lovers to sample Mauritian cuisine without having to travel to Mauritius. Actually not a bad idea during Melbourne winter to make the trip there. As Mark Twain said following his visit to Mauritius, "God created Mauritius first and then paradise was copied after it".
